💜 A Note from Mariko Sensei
This is one of the books that surprised me the most while I was researching and writing it.
Like many people, I knew that Japan has beautiful rivers, waterfalls, and natural springs, but I had never really thought about why the water is so clean. As I researched the topic, I discovered how rain, snow, forests, mountains, and underground water all work together to create Japan’s remarkable natural water system. I learned so much while writing this book, and I hope readers will enjoy discovering these fascinating facts too.
All of the photographs in this reader were taken by my mother, Mitsuko Tashiro, during her travels throughout Japan. Her beautiful photography captures the incredible variety of Japan’s landscapes and helps bring the text to life. I hope these authentic images inspire learners to appreciate both the Japanese language and the beauty of Japan’s natural environment.
Happy reading!
